Everything and everyone around us is obliged to follow Covid rules so many things in our lives are not evolving like we planned or hoped to.

At Bogojina Elementary School we have started with home teaching and learning in November and hopefully by the end of February all students will return to school.

As we needed to adjust many things, we also adjusted the school activity day devoted to STEM method. At first, it was planned for November. Students involved in the project prepared ideas for the activities for other students of our school, but as the home learning is still ongoing for most of the students, the project group decided to adjust the activities.

Students first got to know what STEM method is and what are its aims and then they had to select two from the three given activities. They had to plan how to build something or think about the experiment and its results.

Some of the STEM activities they could choose from (depending their age/class they’re in) are: building towers from different materials, making a recycled car or a parachute, building an expansion bridge; treasure hunt code game, creating a jar rainbow. measuring density, lung capacity or blood flow.

Students enjoyed doing the activities. They liked the most that they could use their imagination, be independent and that they could work and plan with their siblings. In school they would have been more guided. All in all, it is great that sometimes things don’t go as they were planned at first.
