The second learning, teaching ang training activity in Slovenia,

Bogojina, 16-20 May 2022

During the STEM project period, six learning, teaching and training activities (LTTs) are planned. The second LTT involved teachers and pupils of the partner schools. It took place in Bogojina, Slovenia, from 16-20 May 2022.

Five students from each of the 6 partner schools met for the first time, therefore the first day of the LTT was meant for students to get to know each other and give a presentation on their respective schools, towns and countries.

The main objective of this LTT was to prepare a STEM poster. Participating students were trained by the Slovenian school ICT teacher for 5 days in order to develop their ICT skills. In addition to explaining  some basic computer based information technology as theoretical content, this activity focused on practical training in the use of Microsoft PUBLISHER. On the last two days of the activity, pupils designed the “STEM POSTER” by implementing the skills they have gained at this LTT.

DAY 1: 32 students from six different countries met each other at the welcome event at the Primary School Bogojina. The students of the participating schools introduced themselves, their schools, cities and their countries. The mayor of the municipality Moravske Toplice also welcomed the guests.

DAY 2: The usage of Microsoft PUBLISHER was explained in practice. To start with, the overall graphic interface with its components was presented, including the various functions within the ribbons and tool bars. Pupils learned how to set the desired format and became familiar with available templates. They were also instructed on the correct use of copyright free media content (Creative Commons). Pupils learned how to insert and change the design of basic objects – texts, pictures, icons and tables. The print and save options were presented as well. The practical application of this training involved designing a product of pupil’s own choice.

DAY 3:  Pupils were given instructions on how to design the STEM poster. The basics of the visual guidelines for Erasmus+ project materials were presented, including the obligatory components (logo, template and the slogan). After that pupils were divided into groups, so that in each group there was 1 student from each school. Each pupil created its own poster and after that the group decided which elements of individual posters they would incorporate into the common group poster.

DAY 4: The groups had a final review of the group poster and made some additional changes. The final posters were sent to the IT teacher, who printed them. The authors of the posters presented the idea of the poster.

By using Mentimeter (a presentation tool that uses quizzes, polls and word clouds to help engage students) pupils chose the winning STEM poster.

In the end, the teacher presented another popular graphic design tool Canva, which is freely available online. It’s used to create social media posts, presentations, posters, videos, logos and other interesting content.

DAY 5:

Students and teachers visited the Slovenian capital city Ljubljana and the House of Experiments- a “hands-on” science centre covering different subjects: from Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Biology, Geography, Anthropology, Nuclear, to Computer Sciences and others. By moving, changing, squeezing and playing, pupils got to know something new every time. We love their motto: “Having read, I have forgotten. Having seen, I have remembered. Having made it myself, I know!”
