Istituto d’Istruzione Superiore “Axel Munthe” – Italy

The ”A. Munthe” school is a public high school and has about 440 pupils aged between 14 and 19 years. There are 90 teachers and 12 other staff members. The institute offers three courses of 5 years study (a major of trade, Commercial Institute; a major of hotel managing, Hotel School and a scientific and grammar school, High School). This is the only high-school on the island of Capri and therefore it plays not only an important educational but also massive social role as it allows the local kids to aggregate. The institute has a strong link with the entire island’s tourist business. The companies constantly collaborate with the school and over 80% of students get a job in tourist companies within the first year of education. This collaborative model can be shared with other partners as an example of good practice for other partners. The school also motivates students to become the best in selecting them each year for Casargo International Competition (and others) where 5% of these students are with the disabilities. School is committed, where possible, in encouraging the social and professional integration of these students by creating individualized paths of work placement in collaboration with the local health authority social workers. Finally, the Institute has been a promoter and leader of a LPP Comenius multilateral partnership in the years 2013/2015 (it involved 5 European high schools). In 2016, it took part in a project organized by the Polo Geo Isis of Castlevolturno where part of our students attedent a 60 hours English course at the British Learning Academy of Chichester, UK. This formative path allowed them to improve their skills and competences in foreign languages. During the two-year period 2016-2018, our students of the Alberghiero (vocational branch for Tourism, Food and Beverage and Culinary Art) attended the Erasmus+ project KA2 (Cooperation for Innovation and the Exchange of Good Practices- Strategic Partnership for Schools Only- Creative Pedagogical Design for Successful Careers) together with partners from Spain, Portugal and Romania. We are also partner in another Erasmus+ project KA2 (MARTH, mathematics, art and music will make smart) during the years 2019/2021 with Turkey, Lithuania, Greece, North Macedonia and Croatia. Our students study many apps and computer programs based on hotel rooms and restaurant booking, menu setting and wine lists. Students of the Scientific High School participate to a local and national contests in Math. They are fluent in English and they can also choose to study a second foreign language choosing among Spanish, French and German. We have just moved into a new building where we have a computer lab and IWBs. Our students also know how to use Kahoot, Powtoon and Prezi. The teachers in charge of the project will be Mara Mosca (English teacher), Massimo Cimmino (German teacher), Giovanni Ferraro (Economics and Business).
